The overarching societal objective of our project is to increase the efficiency and reliability of modern energy system with coupled power and heat management infrastructures. We aim to achieve this objective by considering two most important classes of such coupled infrastructures: multi-zone buildings with electrically powered Heat/Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants and loads. Leveraging the modern modeling, analysis and optimization approaches, we will develop a new generation of control and scheduling strategies achieving more efficient operation and load-side control capabilities. The proposed strategies will be validated on high-fidelity simulation programs as well as natural experiments performed with the industrial project partner.
