Bringing Advanced Russian Language to MIT

PI: Elizabeth Wood, School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, MIT

This Pilot Grant will support the development and teaching of advanced subjects, Russian V and Russian VI, with a focus on science, technology, professional communication, and intercultural competence. These new classes will help attract more students to the Russian Language Program, as well as to MISTI-Russia and the MISTI Global Teaching Lab Programs. The new classes will advance the development of innovative teaching materials in the field of teaching Russian for professional purposes and potentially lead to a textbook publication.  They will also engage Skoltech students by providing language exchange in English and Russian that will benefit both English learners in Skoltech and Russian learners at MIT.  This has particular importance in the time of COVID19 when travel between the two countries is particularly difficult or perhaps impossible.
